Our message in soundbites:

The Americans with Disabilities Act . . .

-- Is a civil rights law.

-- Gives a level playing field to everyone, not a special advantage.

Universal Design. . .

-- Applies to everyone.

-- Needn't cost more money.

-- Solves many problems.

Economics and Employment . . .

-- People with disability are becoming poorer.

-- Laws are designed to keep us poor.

-- We bring a tremendous amount of $$$ into a community. Others make money off us, even as we remain in poverty.

Disability Culture . . .

-- Just as gays have pride in being gay, we have pride in disability.

-- Being disabled is normal.

Attendant Services . . .

-- It's about hiring whomever you choose for whatever you need (getting up, bathing, reading, etc.).

-- It's real choice ‹ getting services that fit your life, not making your life fit the services.

-- The money is already being spent ‹ but it goes to institutions.

Assisted Suicide . . .

-- It's not compassion, it's contempt.

-- If you tell your nursing home "give me liberty or give me death", which do you think you'll get?

-- The nursing home or death: what kind of choice is that?

-- When the privileged get the right to be killed, the rest of us will discover that we have won the duty to die.

-- If you favor assisted suicide, be very, very nice to your children.
